Project Highlights – Celebrating Voices, Inspiring Change Across Gujarat

At Radio Gujarat 88.4, every voice matters and every story counts. As Gujarat’s dedicated community radio station, we take pride in being the bridge between local aspirations and transformative action. Since our launch, Radio Gujarat 88.4 has worked tirelessly to foster grassroots dialogue, promote sustainable practices, raise awareness on pressing social and environmental issues, and provide a platform for inclusive, meaningful conversations that empower the people of Gujarat. Our Project Highlights page celebrates the diverse, impactful initiatives we have launched and supported — all with the goal of creating a more informed, inclusive, and sustainable society.
Our projects are rooted in the real needs of the communities we serve. Project Highlights are From tribal hamlets in Dang to bustling urban pockets of Ahmedabad, our radio programs resonate across demographics — farmers, women, youth, students, artisans, health workers, and elders. We believe radio is not just a medium of communication, but a movement of transformation. Here’s how we’re making a difference, one frequency at a time.
Radio for Climate Action – “Dharti No Divo”
One of our flagship initiatives, “Dharti No Divo” (The Earth’s Lamp), focuses on climate action and environmental sustainability. With Gujarat being prone to heatwaves, erratic monsoons, and water scarcity, the need for climate awareness has never been more urgent. Through weekly radio episodes, interviews with climate experts, and community storytelling formats, we educate listeners about topics such as water conservation, waste segregation, organic farming, renewable energy, and biodiversity preservation.
Project Highlights are the Listeners from rural areas have shared how these programs helped them adopt simple practices like rainwater harvesting, tree plantation, and reduced plastic usage. The project also collaborates with eco-clubs in schools and colleges, turning climate education into a youth movement.
Women’s Empowerment through Radio – “Radio Sakhi”
Project Highlights is Empowering women is central to our mission. “Radio Sakhi” is a project that amplifies women’s voices and stories, promoting gender equity, entrepreneurship, health awareness, and leadership development. Local women — from homemakers and Anganwadi workers to SHG members and teachers — come on air to share their journeys, challenges, and triumphs.
The project features collaborations with gender rights organizations, women’s development corporations, and micro-enterprise mentors. From discussing menstrual hygiene and maternal health to digital literacy and financial inclusion, Radio Sakhi ensures that important conversations reach the women who need them most.
Through this project, several women listeners have come forward to start their own small-scale businesses or enroll in adult education classes. Radio Sakhi has become a powerful community sisterhood — spreading courage, connection, and confidence.
Youth Leadership and Skill Building – “Tarun Vaani”
Radio Gujarat 88.4 strongly believes in the potential of young people. Our “Tarun Vaani” (Youth Voice) initiative brings youth to the forefront of civic engagement, skill development, and social innovation. Project Highlights The project includes a youth talk series, soft skill sessions, and career guidance programs broadcast across our schedule.
We host “Campus to Community” segments where college students become guest anchors and discuss key issues like unemployment, mental health, substance abuse, and digital well-being. The Tarun Vaani segment also includes “Job Gyaan” — an employability-focused subseries where HR professionals, startup founders, and government officials talk about resume writing, interview tips, internship opportunities, and vocational training programs available in Gujarat.
By nurturing youth leaders and changemakers, we are building a more aware and proactive generation ready to take Gujarat forward.
Health and Wellness on Air – “Swasthya Samvad”
Health is a key pillar of our programming. Our ongoing “Swasthya Samvad” (Health Dialogue) project ensures that critical public health information reaches even the remotest corners. From seasonal diseases to maternal health, child nutrition, mental well-being, disability awareness, and COVID-19 precautions — we present verified, easy-to-understand medical content in local dialects.
Doctors, ASHA workers, and healthcare NGOs regularly participate in our programs to answer listener queries and dispel myths. During the pandemic, this project proved to be a lifeline — offering updates, safety instructions, vaccine awareness, and helpline information through trusted voices.
As part of this project, Radio Gujarat also hosts health camps in partnership with district hospitals and shares the updates and findings with listeners on air — reinforcing the radio-healthcare ecosystem.
Farming and Rural Development – “AgriVaani”
In Gujarat’s rural landscape, agriculture is not just an occupation — it’s a way of life. Our “AgriVaani” project is designed to connect farmers with timely, practical, and innovative knowledge related to agriculture, animal husbandry, irrigation, market trends, and government schemes. The program is aired in coordination with Krishi Vigyan Kendras, agricultural universities, and successful farmers who serve as role models.
Topics such as climate-resilient farming, pest control, organic inputs, and soil health are covered in detail. Farmers are encouraged to call in and share their experiences or challenges, making the show highly interactive and need-driven.
We also run a special seasonal broadcast — “Khedut Varta” — during the sowing and harvesting periods, to offer region-specific guidance and support to farming communities.
Radio Learning Hub – Education for All
To bridge the education divide, we launched the Radio Learning Hub as part of our commitment to lifelong learning. This initiative features academic support for school children, language skill sessions, digital literacy capsules, and adult education content. During exam seasons, we air revision programs, student motivation episodes, and mental wellness segments to help students prepare with confidence.
Partnering with teachers, students, and academic boards, we produce audio modules aligned with school curricula in Gujarati and Hindi. The Learning Hub also hosts storytelling hours and interactive quizzes that encourage cognitive development in children while making learning enjoyable.
Cultural Preservation and Promotion – “Sanskriti No Sur”
Community radio is also a guardian of culture. Through our “Sanskriti No Sur” (Voices of Culture) project, we promote Gujarat’s rich folk traditions, languages, art forms, and local history. From Bhavai theatre and Dayro music to Garba stories and Sufi poetry — our programs serve as a digital archive and a platform for local artists.
This project includes interviews with artisans, performances by folk musicians, and oral histories of village elders. We believe that preserving cultural identity is crucial to community pride and continuity — and radio is the perfect medium to keep these traditions alive and thriving.
Disaster Relief and Community Resilience – “Aapda Setu”
When natural disasters strike, timely communication saves lives. Radio Gujarat 88.4 has been at the forefront of disaster relief communication. Our “Aapda Setu” (Disaster Bridge) project delivers real-time updates, safety measures, helpline numbers, and support service information during floods, heatwaves, and pandemics.
In partnership with local administration and NGOs, we also use this platform to broadcast rehabilitation resources, connect volunteers, and raise funds for affected families. We are working to scale this project into a Disaster-Ready Radio Network, integrating early warning systems and multilingual broadcasts for wider coverage and preparedness.
Grassroots Journalism and Community Reporting – “Jan Vaani”
To democratize storytelling, we have initiated “Jan Vaani” — a citizen-led journalism project. It trains local youth and community members in basic reporting, voice recording, and fact-checking, enabling them to bring authentic ground-level stories to the airwaves.
This project encourages marginalized groups — tribal voices, migrant workers, women, and youth — to document their experiences and bring attention to neglected issues. It’s radio for the people, by the people.
We also provide mobile recording kits and on-the-ground mentoring so contributors can report from remote villages and neighborhoods, ensuring geographic and social diversity in our content.
Tech for Good – Expanding Radio’s Reach
Recognizing the growing intersection of media and technology, we are developing a Radio-on-Demand platform, where listeners can access key project episodes, thematic playlists, and educational content anytime, anywhere. We are also piloting mobile apps and SMS alerts that complement our radio programs, ensuring digital inclusion.
By combining traditional FM broadcasts with digital tools, we’re strengthening our impact and making sure that no one is left behind in the knowledge ecosystem.
The Way Forward
Each of these projects has been born from listening — listening to the people, understanding their challenges, and co-creating solutions that are rooted in empathy and relevance. Radio Gujarat 88.4 is not just a station — it is a catalyst for community-led development. Every program we produce, every voice we amplify, and every change we support is part of our mission to build a more connected, resilient, and empowered Gujarat.
As we look to the future, our focus is on scaling successful models, deepening our community partnerships, and enhancing our learning and impact measurement frameworks. We invite CSR partners, government departments, NGOs, educational institutions, and passionate individuals to collaborate with us in shaping the next chapter of community-driven development through radio.
Whether you are a listener, a changemaker, or an organization — we welcome you to be part of our journey. Let us continue to create waves of change, together.
